This beach is the eastern end of a 2km stretch of golden sand that goes from the Old Town to modern Albufeira. It’s the quieter part of this coast, less developed, and with more vegetation at the top of the low cliff.
The name (“Germans' Beach”) goes back to a time when there was a German fish canning factory nearby. The factory building became a hotel, and the beach is now a favorite of British and Dutch tourists. However, it’s never as crowded as the neighboring beaches.
This is a Blue Flag beach, meaning the sand and the water are clean. In the summer, the sea is often calm, but there can be strong waves and currents at other times of the year. There are lifeguards on duty in the bathing season, but you should always be careful when swimming here -- and watch out for the underwater rocks. You should also avoid walking barefoot on the sand in the summer, as it can get scorching hot. Thankfully, there’s a boardwalk.
Sometimes there’s an inflatable water park for kids and pedal boats for rent. In the summer, you can also rent parasols and loungers, and throughout much of the year there are two restaurants right on the beach, for refreshments, complete meals or drinks. For the disabled, there’s wheelchair access.
At the very end is often a tidal pool, and you can walk from there, over the cliffs, towards the beaches to the east (see below).

How to Get to Praia dos Alemães
Praia dos Alemães is about a 20-minute walk from Albufeira’s Old Town. Keep walking all the way to the left (when facing the sea) from the other beaches. If you’re driving, you might be lucky to find parking on the streets nearby (quite difficult in the summer), otherwise, there’s a car park on Rua Álvaro Bila, above Praia dos Pescadores.

Keep walking west, and you reach the other three beaches in central Albufeira -- Praia do Inatel, Praia dos Pescadores and Praia do Peneco. To the east are Praia dos Aveiros and Praia da Oura.
