Praia do Evaristo

Praia do Evaristo Beach guide, how to get there and where to stay

Parasols in Praia do Evaristo, Albufeira

This relatively small beach is found between cliffs and large rocks to the west of the center of Albufeira. It’s mostly frequented by locals, due to the location away from hotels.

A restaurant right on the sand is what gave this previously secret beach its name. In business since 1986, specializing in some rather expensive seafood and “the catch of the day,” and with large windows offering sea views, it brought the locals throughout the year, until it burned down in the fall of 2023. Portuguese celebrities were often seen dining here after a day at the beach, and it was a favorite of former President of Portugal, Aníbal Cavaco Silva.

In the bathing season, wicker parasols and loungers for rent cover much of the golden sand, but there’s some free space to spread your towel on the western side (to the right when facing the sea). At this time of year there is also lifeguard supervision.

Restaurant and rocky shore of Praia do Evaristo, Albufeira

This is a rocky bay and it’s recommended that you walk over the rocks to enjoy the beautiful scenery of low ochre cliffs (there is a path on the eastern cliff). There are also rocks in the water, so it’s not the best for swimming. However, the sea is usually calm, although at high tide and outside the summer months there can be stronger waves crashing against the rocks. At low tide, it’s a good beach for snorkeling, as there are many sea creatures to observe underwater, swimming around the rocks. At this time there are also tidal pools, which can be fun for children, although the rocks don’t make this a very child-friendly beach.

It flies the Blue Flag, indicating that the sand and the water are clean and safe.

How to Get to Praia do Evaristo

This beach is about a 10-minute walk from a stop of a bus (number 75 of the Vamus company) that goes from Albufeira’s bus station to Guia (the stop is “Praia do Castelo”). However, that’s an infrequent bus, so save yourself the hassle and the time, and go by car. It’s a 15-minute drive from the center of Albufeira, following road M526. From elsewhere in Algarve, take highway A22 and exit to Albufeira on exit 9. Continue on road N395 and turn right on the roundabout to road M526. On this road you’ll see signs pointing to the beach. Parking is very limited, in an unpaved area near the beach.
